The housing societies play a major role in today’s living lifestyle, as single home trend is transformed into the society. This changed the person’s lifestyle, as a large number of people are staying in the same area of society. But, whether the person stay in a home or a residential society, the fire can damage their home. So it is really essential to have regular fire safety checks of the houses and societies. The fire incidents are quite common theses days. It can happen due to various reasons, such as short-circuits, bursting of gas cylinder, etc.

The residential societies are often afraid to get the fire safety audit done. But, if the repeated incidents of fire outbreaks happen, then it becomes the responsibility of the society members to conduct the fire safety audits for their society safety. The society residents need to realize that the emergency situation like fire in the building, blast, etc., can occur suddenly. So the members need to aware about the safety measures which they can take while the situation of emergency.

Following the building evacuation plan, the residents should keep maintain the open space inside the compound, or keep the refugee areas on higher floors vacant. But the people did not follow the rules and illegally utilized the space, which become a big hurdle for the firemen, at the time of controlling the fire. A lack of basic fire-fighting equipments and fire extinguishers, are other reasons, which affect the safety of the society. Even many housing buildings, don’t even have any escape routes which are meant to be used in case of a fire or emergency, or if they had, they will be blocked by cars, scrape materials, etc.

If a housing society wants to have proper fire safety measures, they need to follow some precautions that are:
Install a sound alarm system for dousing the fire.
Keep proper basic fire-fighting equipments and fire extinguishers
Building should have an evacuation plan, and its space should not be used by the residents for their personal use.
Socities should have regular fire safety audits virtually, not just on papers.

 With only few precautions, the housing societies can get safe from the fire or any emergency situation. Based on the RTI, the society authorities should take corrective measures and persuade the societies to act on it. For providing the best society management services to the residents, the society secretary should make some strict safety rules, and make it followed by every member.
